 | Subject: Daily Mirror, John Terry Interview: "Watching United winning trophies is killing me, I want the title back.." Mon Aug 10, 2009 8:18 pm | |
| | Sunday Mirror wrote: | John Terry is desperate for Carlo Ancelotti to ease his pain and restore his reputation as a winner. The Chelsea skipper has won many of the games top prizes - but he revealed last night that Manchester United's Premier League dominance is 'killing him'.
Three managers - Avram Grant, Big Phil Scolari and Guus Hddink have all failed to emulate Terry's beloved Jose Mourinho, who bagged the Championship with the Blues in 2005 and 2006. Since then, Fergie's men have blown all their title rivals out of the water - and Terry admits he is at the end of his tether.
He said: "I'm fed up of seeing United winning trophies. I want to push on as a player and win so many more things for this football club. I'm really ambitious. I want to win the Champions League. I swear to god, I'm desperate to win it. But I'm really desperate to get the title off Manchester United. It's been three years and it's killed me personally. Going three years without the Prem isn't where we want to be as a football club."
Last month, Roman Abramovich rejected big-spending Manchester City's £30million bid for the England captain - after Terry had be blown over by the billionaire's vision for the club. He said: "I've had Roman's ear for a couple of years and when you listen to him speak about his plans it's inspiring. What's happened in the last 3 years on the pitch isn't good enough. When you get Roman, who has made an awful lot of money, turning down a great offer for me and telling me he wants me to be at Chelsea forever... well it's nice to hear."
Terry thinks that new manager Carlo Ancellotti can restore the glory days to Stamford Bridge - if he is given time. "Managers come and go," he stated, "but now its important that we keep the same manager for the next two or three years. We have the expierence and the manager to push us onto the next step. Carlo is a modern-day manager who understands what modern-day players feel. When I sit down and talk to Roman, as a Chelsea fan - away from being John Terry, Chelsea captain - it's exciting."
Continuing, he said: "When he's telling me the players he want to sign, the ambition he's got, the things he wants to do for this football club, its exciting, and its important for the fans to know that side of things. We had a good pre-season tour and I want to keep this momentum going. Its important for us to get off to a good start this year. We've got the Community Shield which was great to win. They've (Man Utd) lost some players and signed a few, so it will be interesting to know what happens."
Concluding, he finished: "We've got a great squad who are really together. Whenever you are down you can go to one of the lads who'll pick you up. I'm ambitious and I want to win things. To do that we have to stop Man Utd - who are a good side with a great manager, probably one of the best ever - winning things." |
