Raul took pride of place in Real Madrid’s long and glorious history on Sunday evening when overtaking Argentinian legend Alfredo di Stefano to become the club’s all-time record goalscorer.
The forward netted his 308th and 309th goals for Los Merengues in a 4-0 win over Sporting Gijon that takes Los Merengues to within ten points of runaway leaders and bitter rivals Barcelona.
Raul scored his first goal for the Spanish giants as a fresh-faced 17-year-old in 1994 against Atletico Madrid, the club that cut him loose as a child before he moved across the city to Real.
The 31-year-old is also Spain’s record goalscorer and is the leading scorer in Uefa competitions and the Champions League.
