Police said he had been due to have a massage at the flat.

The housekeeper went to tell him the masseuse had arrived and found him dead on Tuesday afternoon.

In September the Perth-born actor reportedly split from his girlfriend Michelle Williams, with whom he has a two-year-old daughter, Matilda.

She played his wife in Brokeback Mountain.

He won an Oscar nomination for his role as a gay cowboy in the film but the award went to Philip Seymour Hoffman for his role as Truman Capote.

Ledger is currently starring in I'm Not There, as one of several actors in a role representing singer Bob Dylan.

The tragic actor plays the Joker in the yet-to-be-released Batman film, The Dark Knight.

He also starred in A Knight's Tale and The Patriot, and played a suicidal son in Monster's Ball.

The "pills" were subscription pills from the doctors, so he didn't take any illegal drugs. It's just an unlikely side effect.

Hard to really get your head around these things if you haven't experienced something similar yourself IMO.

Strange one, maybe accidental and not suicide, nothing to say he knew he would die if he took the tablets together.

Mixing Valium with anti-depressants is fucking deadly though.

Admittedly know very little about the above prescription drugs but have just had a quick browse through 'em on Wikipedia. And that part about them being fuckin' deadly together sounds very believable!

Didn't Noel Gallagher write 'Gas Panic' about when he were coming off Valium? Might give that a listen, actually. Very underrated song and tune if you ask me.

Yeah you would have thought so, I think in America its very easy to get hold of prescription drugs, maybe he didn't have a clue, guess we will never know.

I had never heard of him lol, then I found out he was in Brokeback Mountain so I assumed he was a bummer, then to find out he wasn't after reading the paper.

Apparently he was in very good spirits the night he died, which I suppose will lead people to believe it was an accident, I think its a case of believing what we want to believe.
