Joint press release out today about the future of Kingsmeadow

Quote :
AFC Wimbledon and Kingstonian FC are pleased to announce that they have reached agreement on a proposal for the transfer of the additional land surrounding Kingsmeadow stadium to AFC Wimbledon. The deal is designed to enable AFC Wimbledon to operate the stadium more safely and effectively, while helping to safeguard Kingstonian FC's future in the borough.

The transfer of the land, which would be in the form of a lease, will need to be approved by The Royal Borough of Kingston.

The key terms of the proposed deal are:

• AFC Wimbledon to be given a new lease on the land, co-terminous with the lease on the main site

• Kingstonian to receive a new 25 year licence to play at Kingsmeadow. The agreement contains safeguards for both clubs should the other decide to move

Erik Samuelson, Chief Executive of AFC Wimbledon, commented "I'm delighted that we have reached agreement with Kingstonian for a joint approach to the council. We have always thought it is important to ensure that Kingstonian have a home in Kingston and this deal should ensure that, for a considerable length of time. In return, we will be free to make much-needed improvements in the stadium and that will help to secure our future here too."

Malcolm Winwright and Mark Anderson, Joint-Chairmen of Kingstonian FC, said "We are delighted with this agreement and are optimistic it will be ratified very soon. It offers a much improved and longer term position for our club, enabling us to remain at Kingsmeadow Stadium. This new licence between AFC Wimbledon and Kingstonian FC also reflects the ever improving relationship between both clubs.

"This arrangement has taken nearly two years to virtually finalise and we would like to express our thanks to Erik Samuelson CEO of AFC Wimbledon and Scott Herbertson of Kingston Council for their patience and assistance."
